As a global core organic chemical raw material, the development status of vinyl acetate in terms of production capacity, production technology, and application fields is as follows:

Concentration of production capacity
China led: the production capacity of Chinese Mainland reached 2.75 million tons/year, accounting for 35.3% of the global total production capacity, ranking first in the world;
The United States ranks second: with a production capacity of 1.855 million tons per year, accounting for 23.8%;
Other production areas: Taiwan, China, Japan, Singapore, Germany and Saudi Arabia together account for the remaining shares.
China’s capacity expansion
In 2024, an additional 490000 tons/year of production capacity will be added (200000 tons each in East and South China, and 90000 tons in Shandong), with a total production capacity of 3.92 million tons/year;
The production capacity growth rate is 9%, and the ethylene process has become mainstream, with downstream equipment supporting the enhancement of industrial chain synergy.

Breakthrough in Production Technology and Localization
Technological upgrade:Ethylene method dominant: All newly built facilities adopt the ethylene method process, which has low cost and minimal pollution (such as Zhejiang Petrochemical’s 300000 tons/year facility using domestic technology); Optimization of carbonylation method: The coal based synthesis gas route achieves efficient conversion, and the product purity reaches 99.9%.


Domestic substitution acceleration: independent intellectual property devices are put into production (such as the Shanghai Huanqiu Design Project), breaking the international technological monopoly; The import volume of Taiwan has declined, and mainland products are gradually being replaced.
